As we are in the middle of the National Football League’s season, most Americans are glued to their televisions and Fantasy Football lineups. With all of the action on and off the field, it can be easy to overlook some minor changes on the sidelines. Coaches and players are now using tablet technology to review plays, film, and football schemes in-between drives.  The old ways of 3-ringed binders and film projectors are obsolete with the introduction of tablet technology and instantaneous feedback. However, the use of tablet technology does not end on the sidelines for these football players. (more…)

It is a natural phenomenon that libraries, long at the cutting edge of delivering information and media options to their stakeholders, are often the first point  of use for today’s tablet user and future tablet buyer.   The key role of libraries on campus and in the community as a dynamic destination to access the latest data, news and entertainment remains, even in the face of a consumer market swarming with mobile options.  Millions of visitors are flocking to libraries every day, just as so many library patrons still do for desktop internet access.  Rows and rows of internet terminals take up significant library space formerly granted to hard copy sources of information and other printed resources.

Keeping Tablets Safe: The Story of Archelon Enclosures

Tablet Technology is now apart of our daily life. Tablets are now treated as our lifeline to the world around us in both personal and business settings. It is for this reason that Archelon Enclosures was created.

What inspired the creation of the Archelon?

The creator of the Archelon got a call from a hotel in San Diego that had placed iPads in their Lobby Bar to encourage guests to order their own cocktails through a customized app. Soon after the implementation of the program, they realized that the iPads had a penchant for disappearing. A call was made to Motivational Systems, Inc., to see if we could provide a solution to secure their iPads. And voila! The Archelon was born! A sleek, sexy, and secure enclosure for the iPad®, allowing it to be placed in public spaces protecting it from theft or damage.

Why the name, Archelon?

The Archelon was named after a prehistoric sea turtle, the largest ever known to mankind. Lacking a hard shell, it relied on the strong skeletal frame that protected it without limiting performance. Much in the same way, the tough but open framework of the Archelon allows for secure protection without detracting from the modern sleek design of any computer tablet.

Archelon Enclosures participated in Honeywell’s recent Interactive Solutions Fair for the employees of Illinois-based CDW, an integrated information technology solutions provider.  The goal of the event was to showcase the Honeywell products by giving the CDW team a hands-on through interactive, tablet-based point-of-sale (POS) system stations.

Honeywell selected several partners to participate in the event including eMobilePOS, Samsung, Star Micronics and Archelon Enclosures, to just name a few.

“It was great to partner with all these fabulous vendors to showcase a full solution,” Jason Manguba, regional channel manager, Honeywell Scanning and Mobility, said. ”We covered all verticals from retail and warehouse to healthcare!”

Throughout the event, participants could see the functionalities of mobile technology in the following ways:

“Working with partners like Honeywell, Samsung, Star Printers and eMobilePOS gave the CDW employees a hands-on understanding of all the moving pieces involved in selling a mobile POS system,” said Debi Besmer, managing partner, Archelon. “It was a great interactive event that will help them better guide their customers in mobile technology purchasing decisions.”

Archelon Enclosures has tablet enclosures for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and Tab 3 and will continue to develop enclosures as Samsung’s tablet line continues to evolve.

Life in a restaurant moves quickly. Restaurateurs want to consistently exceed guest expectations with seating, service, and their food & beverage offerings. They don’t want to worry about their hardware or software systems in the middle of service- they only want to worry about taking care of their guests.

It was great to hear our hardware solution is doing just that…. eliminating the worry! We recently got a call from Colin Wixson, from the Recovery Sports Grill division of BBL Hospitality, informing us that our Archelon Enclosures were helping Recovery Sports Grills provide guests with a top-notch experience every day.

It would be their place to “recover.” There are currently restaurant locations in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, with more in development.

How to Increase Retail Sales and Improve Customer Service with A Secure Mobile POS System

Posted on: August 26th, 2013 by Archelon Enclosures

Today, mobile POS is a booming $5.7 billion business. The IHL Group is calling it the single fastest moving trend in retail since Internet was added to the stores. In a recent study, they reported that nearly three-fourths of retailers still use desktop computers for customer facing applications – but that number will drop more than 20 percent in 2013. So with almost half of retailers already using mobile POS, it’s safe to say that your store is next.

In fact, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey said the use of iPads® levels the playing field between big and small businesses, all but eliminating the element of competition. But there is one way to keep your competitive edge. While just about any business can implement iPads, the smart ones will implement enclosures to protect their investments.

Here are a number of ways the use of tablet enclosures help your business on the sales floor:

1. Increase sales:

2. Improve customer service:

Twenty-eight percent of North American retailers plan to adopt Mobile POS in some form by the end of 2013, according to the IHL Group study. And the Mobile POS market will make more than $2 billion in hardware and software sales in North America this year.

It’s inevitable – and if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it right. Securing your store’s mobile or iPad POS system with enclosures, kiosks and mounts allows for increased sales and improved customer service – without running the risk of damage or theft.

5 Benefits of Implementing a Mobile POS System

Tablet POS Stands and Enclosures Can Help

Be honest – is your restaurant still in the Dark Ages? Today’s modern restaurants are turning to Apple iPads® and Android ™ tablets to run their operations. From saving money to improving customer service and increasing sales, the use of tablet technology can boost your bottom line.

Here are five ways:

  1. Save money.
  2. Purchasing a point of sale system with tablets and enclosures puts less of a strain on your pocketbook. While a traditional PC-based restaurant POS system can cost upwards of $5,000 per terminal, iPads and tablets can provide you with the same solutions for under $1,000. You do the math. Switching to a smaller, sleeker model brings real bottom line benefits. Many tablet-based POS systems are available in a SAAS model for a low-priced, per-month subscription.

  3. Stay secure.
  4. Each iPad comes with a one-year warranty, while traditional POS systems typically have up to a five-year warranty. Even if you end up replacing your iPad every few years, it would still be much less expensive than replacing your POS system twice a decade – but secure iPad enclosures protect you from having to do so. Plus, iPads have built-in upgradability – the latest version of iOS is always available to be downloaded on Apple devices.

  5. Improve customer service.
  6. Enabling servers to type orders into a tablet while at the table reduces the risk of order entry error. Instead of having to travel to a traditional POS system at the other end of the restaurant to enter orders, servers can send them to the kitchen at the point of sale to speed up preparation times. Many POS solutions also offer suggestive upselling and packaged commands to help restaurant staffs upsell to their clients while they are tableside.

  7. Make more sales.
  8. A Mobile POS solution allows restaurants to expand their service to an outdoor patio or tent sale. Depending on the type of enclosure, servers can remove mobile devices from their kiosk or mount and bring them outdoors to take orders and make payments. More seating allows for more customers and more sales, which would benefit both managers and employees as it could increase the average ticket size and tip.

The mobility of iPads and tablets also allows servers to accept payment while at the table. Swiping cards and applying discounts at the table eliminates the time it takes servers to travel to a traditional POS system. Speeding up the payment process can increase table turnover.

  9. Leave a smaller footprint.
  10. With enclosures, restaurant employees and managers can either operate their tablet technology while it is mounted on a wall or counter, or they can easily remove the device from its docking base to go mobile in a matter of seconds. The flexibility of iPad and tablet enclosures allows restaurants to choose a solution that works best for them.

A mobile POS system helps restaurants stay current in more ways than one. The current trend in the hospitality industry is smaller, sleeker restaurant designs – tablets and enclosures are a space saver in these cases. They leave a smaller footprint than traditional PC-based POS systems, making them ideal for smaller stores where space is limited or where the ability to go mobile is a requirement.

Tablet technology – coupled with mounts, kiosks, stands and enclosures – has a lower total cost of ownership over a lifetime of  use than traditional PC-based POS systems. Not only are they less expensive than terminals at the point of purchase, they can save you money down the line. Their security and mobility enables restaurant staffs to save money on more expensive point of sale solutions, stay current with the latest technology, reduce order errors, speed up service times, increase the average guest check, increase table turnover and expand seating areas.
